Oh, tant pis, 2021
Scenographer, actress, illustrator, painter, performer, ceramist, singer, and playwright, Sarah André is to contemporary art what the pentathlete is to sports in antiquity: a Swiss army knife (but, the big model with the pliers and the toothpick). It’s because she can look at the world upside down that she’s able to grasp its astonishing absurdity. Always in search of the next boundary to push, Sarah smilingly hops between the dialectical poles of better and good, taking advantage of all the possibilities a poetic world can offer, where the true and the beautiful do not exclude the ugly and the false.

André André is the pseudonym Sarah André chose for her side project involving drawings and texts, which she began in 2012 in parallel to her other work. Although these pieces are generally presented in the form of artist's books that lie somewhere between sketchbooks and graphic novels, she also holds exhibitions in independent art spaces. In 2018, she began working with ceramics and presented them at the Halle Nord art space. With its tender, brutal, and sometimes subversive humour, this work – published by Editions Ripopée – creates exchanges with eclectic audiences, reaches out to both the initiated and the uninitiated. Over the years, her writing has spread to more and more diverse media. In 2016, she joined the Old Masters theatre company, where she now works on the visuals, writing and dramaturgy. In 2018, she also co-created a musical project called "Alice" – a vocal trio where she sings her own words and melodies.
