Soul your body, 2021
Hadrien is Body, and Peter is Soul. Unless it’s the other way around... But that’s not the point. What matters is how generously and organically they belong to the history of painting. Both are painters –which is the cement of their relationship – and their commitment to this medium goes far beyond their own personal practice. Their interest in this artform, long vilified and considered outdated, has allowed painting to maintain – and even regain! – a certain legitimacy. As such, the activity developed within the artist-run space known as Body&Soul between 2015 and 2020 helped, only contributed to the greater their recognition of this medium.

BODY&SOUL was the product of discussions between Peter Stoffel and Hadrien Dussoix on painting. The first result of this encounter was the exhibition The Ocean Before Me, which was held at Geneva’s Le Commun – Bâtiment d'art contemporain, and was dedicated entirely to contemporary painting, featuring roughly twenty Swiss and international artists. Following the very controversial reactions provoked by the exhibition, Peter and Hadrien decided to continue their adventure by opening a permanent space in Les Ports Francs to display the kind of painting they love. BODY&SOUL was born. For five years, BODY&SOUL has shown a vast panorama of current painting, with over 100 guest artists in roughly thirty exhibitions, including off-site projects. Since 2020, BODY&SOUL has continued to evolve in this direction, featuring group and temporary projects without a fixed space.
