Pierre et le Cobot, 2021
Beginning as a sculptor, then trying his hand at archaeology, Beat Lippert (1977) studied visual art at the HEAD in Geneva between 2003 and 2007. An engineer of the encounter and automation, his practice oscillates between conceptual creation and concrete construction. From his studio at Usine Kugler, and in parallel to his activity as an interior architect and furniture designer, he produces and reproduces human and geological artifacts, accumulates them, exhibits them, then finally uses of them to question the modes of production in an era that claims to be post-industrial.

Born in Lausanne in 1977, Beat Lippert studied sculpture at the Alanus Hochschule für Kunst und Gesellschaft in Bonn, Germany from 1997-2001, as well as visual art at the Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design, HEAD-Genève between 2003 and 2007. Since then, his work has been exhibited at several institutions, like the Kunstmuseum (Zurich), Mamco (Geneva), Frac (Brittany) and Frac (Lorraine), and the Kalmar Kunstmuseum (Sweden). For his work, he has been awarded the Prix Mobilière Young Art at the 2007 Swiss Art Awards in Basel, the Prix de la foundation Gertrude Hirzel in 2009, and he received a grant from the Fonds Berthoud in 2008 at the Centre d’art contemporain de Genève.
Following his residence in Shanghai, which was awarded to him by ProHelvetia in 2016, he began to study architecture, thus finally enabling him to fully question how creative practice comes into contact with reality.
These questions have already been addressed during his numerous workshops, including one at Bex&Arts in 2011 with asylum seekers from the EVAM learning centre in Lausanne, as well as one in the independent republic of Abkhazia in 2016. A publication is currently being prepared by Ripopée in Nyon.
